BANKSY IN MARSEILLE
On a wall in Marseille, Banksy painted a lighthouse.
Simple, upright, silent but shining.
With the words:
“I want to be what you saw in me.”
A vulnerable, universal truth.
Then some taggers came by.
And added a bold pair of balls.
Vulgar? Maybe.
Provocative? Definitely.
Pointless? Not really.
I’m not saying it’s good or bad.
I’m just asking questions.
here’s another question:
Why do we preserve art in the street when it’s by a world-famous stranger
but erase other voices, other messages, from unknown hands?
Maybe they had something to say too.
That’s the thing about street art ,it doesn’t hide.
It throws itself into the world.
It’s not protected. It’s public. It’s alive.
When you paint on the street, you know anyone can add, twist, remix.
And sometimes, like here, someone answers.
With humor, or challenge, or instinct.
It might be crude. It might be absurd.
But it’s still a response.
And that makes it alive.
